Do Young Players Need a Size 5 Professional Match Ball?

No. The correct ball size is determined by the competition’s age-group rules, not by how advanced a young player appears to be.

IFAB’s standard full-size Law 2 measurements describe the conventional outdoor match ball, but youth competitions often use modified size requirements.

Many younger age groups play with size 3 or size 4 balls before progressing to size 5. The transition age can vary between organizations.

   Check the marking against the competition’s requirements. Do not rely only on the product-family name.
