BRAND-SPECIFIC GLOVE SIZING GUIDE

Goalkeeper Glove Size Guide: Measure Nike, adidas & Kids Correctly

This is a measurement tool, not a generic size chart. Nike and adidas currently size from different primary measurements, so brand conversion by guesswork is unreliable.

SIZE-GUIDE ANSWER

Measure the hand, then use the exact brand's goalkeeper chart—because brands do not size from the same measurement

Nike's dedicated goalkeeper chart uses hand width. adidas' March 2026 guide uses hand length as its primary method and also gives a palm-circumference shortcut. That alone is enough reason not to convert a Nike size directly into adidas or PUMA without checking the brand chart.
MEASUREMENT WORKFLOW

Measure once correctly instead of ordering three sizes blindly

Measure both hands

Use the larger hand if there is a noticeable difference. Nike also advises choosing the size that fits the larger hand in general glove measurement guidance.

For Nike goalkeeper gloves: measure hand width

Place the tape snugly across the widest part of the hand from left to right.

For adidas: measure hand length

Measure from the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger, then compare to adidas' goalkeeper size chart.

Use circumference only if the brand supports that method

adidas also describes measuring around the widest part of the palm below the knuckles, excluding the thumb.

Try the glove in catching position

Open and close the hand, make a catching shape and confirm the palm does not shift excessively.

NIKE GOALKEEPER CHART

Current adult Nike sizing uses hand width

74.17–4.4 in
84.4–4.6 in
94.6–4.8 in

Nike's kids goalkeeper chart currently runs sizes 3–8 with its own hand-width ranges. Do not assume the adult and youth number mean the same thing.

HOW MUCH FINGER SPACE?

Snug does not mean fingertips jammed into the glove

adidas' current sizing guide says goalkeeper gloves should feel snug but not overly tight, and suggests roughly 0.5–1 inch (1–2.5 cm) between fingertips and the end of the glove. That sounds generous compared with everyday gloves because goalkeeper gloves are intentionally larger to create catching surface. Comfort and control still override the number.

CUT CHANGES PERCEIVED SIZE

A size 9 negative-cut glove can feel very different from a size 9 positive-cut glove

Negative cut

Tighter finger channels and seams inward create a close, compressed feel.

Positive cut

Roomier finger shape can feel more forgiving at the same nominal size.

Hybrid cut

Fit can vary finger by finger; use the manufacturer's exact model description.

FIT SYMPTOMS

What your hand tells you after five minutes

Fingertips hard against the end

Too short/tight or wrong cut for your preference.

Palm bunching

Too much volume can reduce control even if finger length seems acceptable.

Hand slides inside

Glove may be too large or wrist closure may not secure your hand well.

Cannot close fist comfortably

Size/cut may be overly restrictive.

Spine glove feels much tighter

Finger-protection structure changes flex; do not assume the same feel as a soft no-spine glove.

KIDS VS ADULT

Youth size numbers are not universal adult equivalents

adidas explicitly states that youth goalkeeper gloves are proportioned differently and that a youth size 7 is not the same as an adult size 7. For children, buy youth-specific gloves, remeasure through growth spurts, and use the exact youth chart for the brand.

Measure the hand the way the brand asks, then choose the cut/fit you prefer.

Do not convert sizes across brands blindly. Nike width, adidas length/circumference and cut geometry can all change which nominal size feels right.
